POLL TUNISIA (www.tunisiesondage.com) published its first report on the key figures of the Internet and social networks in Tunisia in 2014. These statistics relate to Internet penetration and social media in Tunisia, the connection means and the profile of users of social networks in Tunisia.
The report reveals that the number of Internet users in Tunisia currently stands at 5.81 million people with a penetration rate of 53% of the population. These figures allow Tunisia to rank 10th African countries in terms of number of users, the 10th country in the MENA region in terms of Internet penetration and 66th country worldwide in terms of number of users Internet.
According to the report, the overall penetration of social networks is 42% with 3.6 million active users of mobile social networks in Tunisia. This makes Tunisia the eighth country in the MENA region in terms of overall penetration of social networks and the ninth country in the penetration of social networks on mobile.
Facebook is the most popular social network in Tunisia with 4.6 million users. The Twitter social network is not widely used in Tunisia, in contrast to other countries in the MENA region with only 38,000 active users. As for the professional social network Linkedin, it is being developed in Tunisia with 415,000 users.
Finally, the report provides information on the profile of Facebook users in Tunisia: 58.5% of users are male while female users represent 41.5% of total Tunisian Facebookers.
Broken down by age group of Tunisian facebookeurs, the report reveals that the majority of Tunisian Facebook users are young adults: the categories most represented are 18-24 (39.1%) and 25-34 years (30.6%) while older Tunisian users over 55 are the least represented with only 3.9% of the total Tunisian Facebook users.
