Holograms and holographic displays as Leia, which uses the fog to project images in the air, have already done much about them. But all require a carrier to give the illusion that the three-dimensional image floating in the air.

When most of holographic display devices have limitations (support mandatory screening, limited field of view, poor quality of the projected image), the Japanese company unveiled Burton Aerial 3D, a device capable of displaying simple patterns and 3D text into the air without any support!

To achieve displaying 3D images in 3D space without screen, the Burton's researchers have mixed laser and plasma technologies, a state of disordered material consisting of charges "free".

images are created by plasma emission near focal points targeted laser light. The molecules at those specific points of the space then release energy as photons (ie light particles), creating the different points of the three-dimensional image that appears in the suspended air.

The inventors of this technology now wish to develop applications in signaling emergencies (accidents, natural disasters, ...) to facilitate communication pointing out the important places (evacuees, food, relief area danger, ...). Of course actors advertising and entertainment are sure to exploit this imaginative display technology.
